pkgbase.org answers one question: which FreeBSD base package contains this file? It indexes the file lists FreeBSD publishes for its packaged base system (the ~1,000 packages that make up base_release_* for each supported release and architecture) and lets you search by path, filename, or library name.

Where the data comes from

Everything on this site is derived from the file lists published in FreeBSD's own base_release_* package repositories. pkgbase.org does not redistribute package contents — it records only which package a path belongs to, for every indexed release and architecture, including releases that have since gone end-of-life.
